BOTANICA MORTEM is a photographic study of plant life, imperfection, and the quiet work of repair.
This project explores common houseplants' overlooked textures and tonal shifts through close-up, controlled photography. Each plant is captured at a different stage in their growth, some seedlings and some mature, some dead and some revived. The focus is on their irregularities or patterns, highlighting bruising, scarring, new growth, and root systems.
Color plays a central role in the series, as well. Each photo desaturates its greens, allowing the subtle pinks and reds to be highlighted. Even plants that appear monochrome to the eye hold these quiet layers of color that make them feel alive.
These were taken as my final project for Foundation Digital Photography, summer of 2025.
